PSHE

The purpose of the Monks Abbey PSHE intent is to provide teaching of high quality PSHE across all age phases which is accessible to all and ensures that each of our pupils will develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy, safe and prepared for life and work. The aim is to ensure our pupils understand more about how to play a positive and successful role within our society, both as a child and as an adult within the future. It should have an impact on both academic and non-academic outcomes for pupils, particularly the most vulnerable and disadvantaged. We endeavour for all children to have a holistic PSHE learning journey spanning each child’s school career, with a progressive, spiral curriculum that addresses real needs in a rapidly changing world.

As a school we all follow the Jigsaw programme. Jigsaw 3-11 offers a comprehensive Programme for Primary PSHE including statutory Relationships and Health Education, in a spiral, progressive and fully planned scheme of work, giving children relevant learning experiences to help them navigate their world and to develop positive relationships with themselves and others.

The impact of following the Jigsaw programme will be that the standards of attainment across the school will meet or exceed those which are expected of our children nationally. We will continuously asses the implementation and impact of PSHE curriculum in order to achieve the highest outcomes possible across all year groups and ensure that we provide the support that is necessary for all children to achieve.

Through our PSHE curriculum, we believe we can enhance children’s education and help them to become caring, respectful, responsible and confident individuals and citizens.
